The chrome-edged handwheel was issued on all Featherweights through about 1941 and the all-black hand wheel was issued to all black Featherweights thereafter.  Because the black handwheels were sometimes chipped around the outer edge from consistent use over the years, the chrome handwheels have become more desirable today.  However, many Featherweight owners and collectors wish to keep their machines as original as possible.
