Featherweight Shop Talk: Staying Connected With Quilts
Welcome back to The Featherweight Shop Talk Blog! Everyday, we will be posting up a new idea, story, recipe or tutorial to keep the creative juices flowing! As we participate in sewcial distancing, it is just as important to find ways to keep connected, albeit virtually. Today, we are going to take a look at a few creative ways to keep in touch with loved ones! We hope you enjoy!

Video Calls
In today's day-in-age, there are so many free options for video calls that do not require subscriptions! A few of my favorites would have to be:
Facebook Messenger Calls
Facebook Messenger Calls are great to stay in touch for a variety of reasons. They are completely free, you do not need to be connected to the internet, and you are able to call or video chat internationally without any additional charges! If you currently have family that are located in a different country, this would be a great option to do a daily or weekly video chat. You can find instruction on the Facebook Help Page Here.
Skype
Skype is probably one of the best known video calling apps. Skype is a great option for "group" chats! If you are missing your quilt guild, this is the best option! Gather your pals, plan your time, and hop on a group video call to catch up! You can find more information on Skype here.
WhatsApp is another great option for international calls, messages and small group chats. The great part about WhatsApp, it is very easy to search! So if you are looking back for your favorite pattern or recipe often, this may be the best fit for you! Learn more about WhatsApp here.
Quilt Races & Virtual Projects
April & Jamie with their "Quilt Race" Quilts
What better time to start a "quilt race" than now? April and Jamie started these beautiful quilts last summer, just finishing up their quilt race recently (Jamie won!) With all the wonderful video call and conference options, starting a Quilt Race or Guild Project would be as easy as pie!
Last month, we complete the Farm Girl Vintage Sew Along that detailed each of the blocks in Lori Holt's beautifully fun pattern! If you are looking for a fun, new pattern to dive into, and want a guiding hand during the process, take a look at our Sew Along series by April!
Farm Girl Vintage Quilt Sew Along
Ruthie with Farm Girl Vintage Finished Quilt
Personally, I am gently nudging my kiddo's grandmother to start a quilting project virtually with them! After sending links of quilt blocks, fabrics, and smiling children, I am pretty sure I have her convinced! Now, all I need to do is set a time to have the kids video call their grandma and start sewing! How sweet would this be?
