Shop Talk: Sew Organized

fun

Welcome back to Shop Talk here at The Featherweight Shop! We love our local chit chat with staff, gathering around the dinette table so-to-speak (because that is what we have!) and sharing with one another. In these segments, we exchange patterns, recipes, organizational ideas, history quips, crafty projects, and smiles about learning an old-fashioned way of doing things. Shop Talk is the fun tidbits of news!

Tammy is back at her organizational charm in this week's Shop Talk! She is walking us through her Sew Organized project with beautifully explained directions and pictures.

I began this lovely and useful project, Sew Organized, by reading over the directions carefully, cutting the pretty fabric and labeling all the pieces. It was so fun to pick out the material! Roses are my favorite flower and pastels are such fairy-tale colors, and we have an array of beautiful fabric prints for you to select as well!

I used the Sew Handy Stickers by Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet to keep the pieces in order and avoid confusion and mistakes.

After pinning and sewing, it came together very quickly.

The Sewline Styla Air-Erasable Roller Ball Pen was so helpful to making those desired straight lines, and they disappear from air-exposure shortly after sewing.

The elastic went through the seam easily using a safety pin as a bodkin.

Pockets, pockets, and more pockets! A little piece of pink ric-rac added a sweet touch, but we have a wide array of colors for you to select from to match your fabric, too.

Instead of using batting for the pincushion piece, I used ground walnut shells. The weight will make the frame sturdier and it will also keep pins and needles sharp.

The fusible stabilizer stiffened the material and gave it a hearty feel.

Once the final seams were sewn, it slid right onto the frame and tah-dah! I now have a space saving friend to stand by at the ready with my sewing tools.
