What's new in The Featherweight Shop Vintage Collection - July 2024
Here at the Featherweight Shop, we have quite the collection of vintage Singer items. Due to our remote location, very few customers have had the opportunity to see the many rare Singer items we have procured in our personal collection. This series of blog posts brings our collection out for all to see what new items we receive. Some of these items may be famous and recognizable, but there may be other items that very few individuals have ever seen or heard of before. For the month of July 2024, here are some of our recent finds for your viewing pleasure:
This needle threader comes in a German box and is quite unique compared to most of the other Singer needle threaders because it is bent at 90 degrees. It functions the same as the more common 121632 needle threader, but the user would have their hand in front of the needle if he/she was threading a Featherweight.
All the way from Italy, this stunning advertisement holds a special place in our collection as it prominently features the Featherweight!
We are always excited to add an employee pin to our collection. This one would have been awarded to an employee who worked for Singer for 10 years.
This is one of the most complete Sewhandy sets we have seen! It has all its original components with some extras as well. In the box, there are compartments for a thread spool, the screwdriver, and extra needles; all of which are included. Additionally, there is a pattern that does reference the 'Baby-Singer' as well as a box of Singer branded spools of thread.
This unused spool of thread was made for Singer by the Wm Barbour & Sons company. In the late 1800s Wm Barbour & Sons was the world's largest manufacturer of Tailor and Shoemaker's thread.
We were ecstatic when we added this to our collection. This is an unused packet of teaching materials sent to Patterson Grade School in NY. A time capsule like this transports our imaginations to a time of practical and thorough education in schools. The envelope is addressed to chairman Kimma. We were able to locate the obituary of Mr. Kimma, who passed away in 2011.
These original Singer store displays have found their place in our collection as they hang on one of the walls here at the shop. Now to fill them with even more 'Sewing Machine Aids'!
There are so many fun vintage Singer items here at the shop, and we are very excited to share our new finds with the Featherweight community. Stay tuned for next month!
Occasionally, we have an extra accessory, attachment or collectible available for purchase in the Shop. You, too, could begin your own Singer collection - check out what's new in the Collector's Corner!
