Light Lamp Socket for Singer Featherweight 221 (New)

I picked up what I call a "rescue" Featherweight in September. The surprise was that the light socket and 90 percent of the connecting wire had been removed (image 2 attached)
I ordered and installed a replacement socket from the Featherweight shop. Looks very nice and fits perfectly. However, it did not produce light. I had checked continuity in the light switch in advance and it seemed ok. After quite a few more continuity checks, I determined that power was not going through the new light socket. Fortunately, I had worked on another machine in which neither the socket or switch were working. On that one I was able to repair the lamp socket terminals (corroded) and invented a replacement wire that is remarkably like the one supplied with this new lamp socket from F-Shop. On opening the lamp socket (image supplied), I found one of the wires was broken just beyond the solder holding it to the terminal. Long and short is that I put in a new wire harness, soldered the terminals to it, installed everything, and now there is light. The socket assembly supplied by F-Shop was very nice quality, fit very well and except for the broken wire would still be in my machine. I did find the harness very stiff when bending into the three pin area, but it would have been ok. I cannot imagine working at Singer in 1935 and fitting all those fat stiff wires into that tiny little box along with the 3 pin terminal body.

The replacement fixed the issue of the blinking light due to bad copper prong in housing. No more messy, corroded lead tubing to deal with. The only thing I can say negative about the light lamp socket is the wires are very stiff and a little hard to get shoved into the small space for the plug and reinstalling wire clamp at end took me some time det to stiffness. I know the stiffness is needed to make sure you can bend the covered wires away from gears, so just took my time. A video showing a technician removing and replacing with new harness part would be a great help!!!

Works beautifully. Installation went well EXCEPT the video demonstrated the procedure for returning the original lamp to the machine, not using the replacement. The original has one wire longer than the other, making it easy to distinguish. The replacement lamp has wires the same length but different colors. Instructions should include which color to connect to the motor and which should connect to the light. Otherwise very happy with the product.

Always have just what I want. Great quality too.

Fixed the problem with minimal handling of messy original wire and no complicated troubleshooting. However, installation was challenging for me. Would have appreciated printed instructions included with the item.
