Blocks 46, 47 & 48 (Simple Star Blocks) - Farm Girl Vintage Quilt & Featherweight Shop Sew Along

Farm Girl Vintage Sew Along

We are finishing up one of the cornerstone blocks and replication of the Simple Star.  When selecting fabric, I picked colors that balanced the previous block we made in August, because the four of them will be placed in each corner of the quilt top.

Psssst! If you're just joining us and want to get in on the fun with a darling and perfect collage of farm girl fabric, then check out the Farm Girl Vintage fabric and accessories collection here. You can get the book here, too!

Open your book back to page 61 for this month, grab more fabric scraps, get it prepared and cut, and let's enjoy some more Featherweight sewing! Complete your blocks following along with the pattern, paying attention to a several tips in the photos below. Make sure to press your block seams open (when you can), being careful to be as exact with your cutting and alignments as possible.

The block above is a look back to Block 36, so we will repeat some of the instructions below with a few photos of the remaining three blocks for reference.

Because the pattern was so easy to construct, I took my time so I could try and attain accurate points and seams. Notice the stitching line is just a hair's width to the left and right of the respective lines? This helps when you press the top pieces over. It will actually align square and to the edge of your block unit.

Because the blocks are small and pieces are many, pressing your seams open can help to reach the final block dimensions.

******************************************************************************

It has been difficult time wise to get our group gathered all together again, but this last week was a fun night.  Lori is rounding the finish line with her quilt (and, I think, secretly racing Wendy) and is contemplating adding additional blocks from the Farm Girl Vintage 2 book.  They have a ranch, after all, so adding a cow might be necessary for her quilt.

Rebekah is sewing more and more and more of her fussy cut blocks - they're so cute!

... and tonight it was "learning how to knit with Lou" for Ruthie.  As you can see, working with double-pointed needles was a fun challenge.

Roxanne is sewing her FGV blocks on her cute little white Featherweight, and Wendy Jo is sewing the last of her blocks, too.

Look how Wendy Jo separated her pieces!  Wasn't that thrifty and clever?  We had to pass her tip along; it's a great way to use clothespins in the winter-time!

The Water Turn block is such a fun one to sew!

On Monday, Wendy Jo surprised us all at work by showing up with her finished quilt top.  She has a specific bed size to accommodate, so she wanted it to be 9 blocks long x 5 blocks wide.  This was such a delight to see her finish this!  And, look at that joy on her face!

What about you!? What colors have you put together this month for your Farm Girl Vintage blocks? Let us know and feel free to post pictures in the comments below. Or join us on the Facebook group to share and enjoy more Featherweight Fellowship online!
