Shop Talk: Burl's Steamed Onion Recipe

Burl Thompson is the Tech Department Manager here at The Featherweight Shop! He is hardworking, smart and a loving husband and father. On his down time, he enjoys cooking, designing their house they are building and cutting down trees on their 20 acre farm. With a variety of animals, he says his ducks make him the happiest!

Today, he shares with us one of his favorite recipes.

 

Steamed Onion Recipe

Peel the number of onions desired.

Cut the tops off but not the bottom root part.

Score the onions close to the root to make “petals”.

(I did four at a time in my Dutch oven.)

 Add 1 cup of water and 2 TBSP of butter.

Salt and pepper to taste.

Steam for about 35 minutes or until tender.

Be careful to dish out with a spatula or large spoon so as not to disturb the flower shape. Place on a plate and gently push to open the flower.

Place a poached egg in center.

Serve with Bratwurst and a dipping sauce such as Ranch dressing.

Garnish as desired with paprika or parsley and serve!
