What's New in The Featherweight Shop Vintage Collection - June 2022

historical

Here at the Featherweight Shop, we have quite the collection of vintage Singer items.  Due to our remote location, very few customers have had the opportunity to see the many rare Singer items we have.  This series of blog posts brings our collection out for all to see what new items we receive.  Some of these items may be famous and recognizable, but there may be other items that very few individuals have ever seen or heard of before. For the month of June 2022, here are some of our recent finds:

We delight in finding employee pins from Singer like this '5 year' service pin.  Click here to see if we have any original Singer employee years of service pins.

Most are familiar with the rare and collectible Centennial Singer tape measures, but this one is particularly unique as it features the word 'OVER' and doesn't have 1951 written on it, indicating it was made and sold after Singer's 100-year anniversary in 1951.  The photo below shows the more common Centennial tape measure on the right.  Click here to see if we have any original Centennial tape measures for sale.

This darling brochure came from Singer in the UK and was likely printed in the 1930s prior to the Singer Featherweight being sold in the UK.

Most Singer attachment boxes here in the USA were cardboard, but metal ones were included with Singer machines sold in many other countries, like this one originally included with a 66 Singer from Germany.

This is a rare original oil can from France that we are pleased to have in our collection.

Singer made their pattern tracing wheels in a variety of different styles and finishes, and this rare one came from France as they were transitioning from their metal folding tracing wheels to the fixed handle plastic type ones.  Click here to see if we have any vintage original Singer pattern tracing wheels for sale.

This commemorative Christmas ashtray from a Singer store in Ohio is in fabulous condition.

This pretty advertisement from Singer in Italy has two weights on the end of the butterfly's wings to allow you to balance the butterfly by placing it on the end of your finger.

Here is another employee pin from Singer - this one with a pink jewel in the middle.

This is a rare piece of original sheet music composed as a sort of theme song for the Singer company.  Click here to see if we have any of this rare sheet music available for sale.

We found this one-gallon Singer oil jug to add to our ever-growing Singer oil can collection.

We were thrilled to find this marvelous 1938 calendar from Germany.  Every week features a picture of some thing or some place related to Singer in Germany from images of local shops to their factory in Wittenberge.

We have a large collection of vintage Singer wrenches here in the shop, and this unique addition can loosen three different bolt sizes.

Perhaps our favorite find this month - this photo collection of UK war heroes was printed by Singer and contains their advertising as well as a brief bio on each hero.  This is truly a marvelous addition to our collection and the only such packet we have ever seen.

The Singer coin banks are very fun to collect and this one is quite rare in the brown color.  Click here to see if we have any original coin banks for sale.

This is an original advertisement highlighting both Singer and the grandeur of the Pan-Am Expo in 1901.

This Singer seam ripper in its original German box was a fun find!

Last but certainly not least we received a wooden Singer sign from Italy; it fits perfectly over a doorway here in the shop!

There are so many fun vintage Singer items here at the shop, and we are very excited to share our new finds with the Featherweight community.  Stay tuned for next month!
