What's new in The Featherweight Shop Vintage Collection - August 2024
Here at the Featherweight Shop, we have quite the collection of vintage Singer items. Due to our remote location, very few customers have had the opportunity to see the many rare Singer items we have procured in our personal collection. This series of blog posts brings our collection out for all to see what new items we receive. Some of these items may be famous and recognizable, but there may be other items that very few individuals have ever seen or heard of before. For the month of August 2024, here are some of our recent finds for your viewing pleasure:
Shown above is one of the most coveted and fascinating books from Singer. The Shop Manual was intended only for intracompany use and guides the store employees through everything from customer interactions to store set up. Primarily used in the USA, this one is additionally unique with the special preface from Singer in London endorsing the use of the book in the UK. These do make it in to our inventory from time-to-time, so click here to see if we currently have any in-stock.
This bulk box of needles contains several unused packs of 15x1 needles - the size that would have been used for most household machines including the Featherweight. These 15x1 needles tend to pop up in our stock every so often—click here to see if you’re in luck today!
This is an early set of Singer's ALL OVER THE WORLD advertisement trading-style cards. Later, and more commonly, they can be found in a small cardboard box, but this early style comes in an envelope.
These are two variations of the very rare, European style, stocking darner apparatus. They are comparable to the Singer Stocking Darner shown here but made partially of Bakelite instead of all-metal.
Originally, the stocking darner was made by Nu-Way, and many early Singer advertisements reference that name. This rare scissor sharpener is one example.
Further establishing Singer as a seemingly fabulous company to work for, this educational resource was printed by Singer for the arithmetic education of employees in the evening hours. The math problems posed in the book emphasize practical factory solutions.
This knife made for Singer is in fabulous condition. It features two blades and a file.
Last and certainly not least, we have a 1941 Blackside Featherweight now in the collection, and it is in fabulous condition. The three remarkable Blackside components are always remarkable - the faceplate, presser bar lifter, and stitch length indicator. There are so many fun vintage Singer items here at the shop, and we are very excited to share our new finds with the Featherweight community. Stay tuned for next month!
