What's new in The Featherweight Shop Vintage Collection - September 2024
Here at the Featherweight Shop, we have quite the collection of vintage Singer items. Due to our remote location, very few customers have had the opportunity to see the many rare Singer items we have procured in our personal collection.
This series of blog posts brings our collection out for all to see the new items we receive. Some of these items may be famous and recognizable, but there may be other items that very few individuals have ever seen or heard of before. For the month of September 2024, here are some of our recent finds for your viewing pleasure:
This stunning Spanish singer calendar was recently added to our collection!
This shop supply of emery cord is a very unique find and the only one we have seen. Emery cord can be quite practical, especially for polishing burrs in the needle hole of the throat plate. Of course, Singer knew all the handy tools a repairmen could utilize when working on their machines.
Another handy tool we have added to our vintage Singer collection is this color finder/selector. This was used to assist customers in selecting coordinating fabric colors!
There are many Singer souvenirs here at the shop, and this French ashtray has a special place among them with its remarkable red and green lettering.
These toys were made likely during the 1940s using Singer's brand. We are ecstatic to have these two color/language (Turkish, blue; French, red) variations in our collection. The delicateness of these toys would cause a child to be careful in their play, but the functions of the machines are dazzling. The needle actually goes up and down as the hand wheel is rotated.
This fascinating Singer company book describes the different terms related to finishing. We found a concise definition of Japan Black, the finish of our beloved Featherweights.
These beautiful samples would have been utilized by a salesman in the industrial machine department. Examining the stitches that could be done by Singer's commercial machines is fascinating!
This VW Singer branded bus is darling and did indeed come from Germany!
The Featherweight we recently added to our collection is in stunning condition and retains its original purchase receipt. It was originally sold to a Miss Green in St. Helens, UK for 43GBP—nearly 2,000GBP today! The machine was commissioned May 23, 1949, and it was sold in October of the same year. This is a relatively short time from commission to sale, and it indicates the speed at which Singer could fully complete the production of a Featherweight.
There are so many fun vintage Singer items here at the shop, and we are very excited to share our new finds with the Featherweight community. Stay tuned for next month!
Occasionally, we have an extra accessory, attachment, or collectible available for purchase in the shop. You, too, could begin your own Singer collection. Check out what's new in the Collector's Corner!
