Article: Farm Girl Vintage Quilt & Featherweight Shop Sew Along - Blocks 13 & 14 (Egg Basket & Farm Fresh Flower)

Farm Girl Vintage Quilt & Featherweight Shop Sew Along - Blocks 13 & 14 (Egg Basket & Farm Fresh Flower)

Blocks 13 & 14 are our featured blocks - Egg Basket and Farm Fresh Flower blocks! The Farm Girl Vintage Quilt Sew Along with the Featherweight Shop continues.... This was indeed the Christmas season, yet a few of us Featherweight Shop diehards still got together to work on our blocks.  We waited until after our big annual sale, but we had fun discussing that when we increase to three blocks, that means we are half way through with sewing our quilt top!

Both Ruthie and April opted to make a yellow and brown basket, featuring a more "realistic" or natural-colored basket style.  What about you?  What color was your basket?

If you're just now joining us for the monthly Farm Girl Vintage Sew Along, grab your book, some fabric, get it prepared and cut, and let's enjoy some more Featherweight sewing!

Complete your blocks following along with the pattern, paying attention to a couple of tips in the photos below. Make sure to press your block seams open (when you can), being careful to be as exact with your cutting and alignments as possible.

This block was another great one for the Creative Grids Folder Corner Clipper ruler!  Just make sure to cut the appropriate angle direction.

Using the top edge of the Creative Grids Corner Clipper ruler you can align the edge just perfectly!
Then your pieces will be all set and ready to use the Featherweight Accurate Seam Guide.

The Farm Fresh Flower block allowed another example of using the folded corner clipper ruler, too, aligning to the three edges of the fabric square.  Trim the excess fabric away and then use the Featherweight Accurate Seam Guide to chain piece your corners.
Pin, pin, pin!  With the seams pressed open, pin each side of the seam and you'll find your corners are far more likely to match up when you're finished piecing.
When you're all finished  -- lay out all your blocks to see all that you've accomplished this year!  It's such a great feeling and makes you want to keep going!

Until next Featherweight Farm Girl Vintage Quilt Sew Along...

NOTE: Now that we are in the swing of things and becoming more familiar with Lori Holt's Farm Girl Vintage quilt block style, next we will continue sewing three blocks. Thus, we will feature Block 15 "Farmhouse", Block 16 "Feed and Seed" AND Block 17 "Fresh Pears". These three blocks are going to probably be the biggest challenge in the set because all these blocks have small pieces and lots of steps.  Pace yourself knowing we've been working on these together!
