Time to start on the bright and colorful version of this fun design! The folks at the Featherweight Shop have put together a Lori Holt Sewing Happy kit. Let's take a look.

Of course the same instructions apply, but this time the fabric included is a Lori Holt charm square pack. The embroidery floss and embellishments are also fun and colorful, though your kit may look a little different than this one.

Feel free to refer back to my setup post for the Autumn Vintage kit if you need guidance, because this one sets up exactly the same way, beginning with pressing both layers of cloth you will use. I did decide this time to tape my pattern to the window for tracing, to try to get greater accuracy in transferring the pattern.

This angle is hard on the muscles, however, so if you are doing this I recommend working on only part of it at a time. It takes longer than you think to mark all those little lines. Of course, if you have a lightbox you can avoid this difficulty.

Once it is all traced and both layers basted together, you're ready to stitch. Now, this time instead of everything in black, you will need to make some color decisions. You may end up making different decisions than I made, which is perfectly fine and keeps every picture unique!

You can also decide to use only some of the colors included in your kit, if you prefer. I first looked over the picture and made a general plan of what colors I would use where, but of course that could change or alter as I go. You can also write down your ideas on the margin of your pattern instructions so you don't forget your original plan, if that is helpful.

For my sample, I knew I wanted the sewing machine to be gray, and the tomato pincushion to be the traditional orange or red, so that's where I started!

You can already tell that this will look much different than the all-black version. But it's fun to see the variations, and watch it come to life. If you need a stitch refresher, check back to my second post. Everything is exactly the same as the Autumn Vintage version, except you are playing with multiple colors.

I'll keep stitching on this, and check back in next week with my progress.

Happy stitching!
