Patrons can borrow one of the Library’s Featherweights to take home and use, and simply return it when they are done, like any book. The portability of the Featherweight does lend itself to lending! As Library volunteers, John and Margaret facilitate this program by repairing, maintaining,...

Shop Talk: A Simple Guide to Quilt Batting with Jamie

When I first started quilting, I really didn‚Äôt know much about batting. I had just finished the top of my very first quilt and was excited to set out to purchase what was needed for the¬†inner layer. I went to my local box store and picked up a bag of polyester batting. At the time, I didn‚Äôt know that there was any other batting types available, but I sewed my quilt, hand quilted it myself and¬†gave it to¬†a friend who was moving away. I wasn‚Äôt sure why it didn‚Äôt look like the quilts I had seen¬†elsewhere¬†as mine was ‚Äúfluffier‚ÄĚ than...

Sew-In at Home: Learning From Our Mistakes!

Before we started this project, the kids and I were very undecided if we were able to handle such a huge undertaking. None of us really knew how to sew that well, or how to assemble a quilt for that matter. But, we knew that this year was one that has brought a lot of new experiences into our lives! So, why not go big - and we meant BIG (and at the time did not really understand just how big of a quilt it was.) Understanding that we were going to have a lot of roadblocks, and hiccups, we...

Sew-In at Home: A Christmas Quilt

Welcome back to the Sew-In with Nathan and Sayley! The Christmas Quilt is FINISHED! Thank you all so much for following along on our journey as we learned all about quilting and explored the joys and easy companionship that come along with this timeless craft. The Sew-In started while Nathan and Sayley were spending countless hours at home from school this last year. Even during difficult times, I believe that learning and family time keep the children grounded. The "sewing" days are my favorite as we spend hours talking, laughing, learning, and sewing. So many memories are being made, as...
