Featherweight Case Restore Along Part 1: Welcome to the Restoration!

Welcome to Part 1 of the Featherweight Case Restore Along! Today, Annette walks us through removing the old tolex, as well as what the finished product looks like! Earlier this year, we were overjoyed to cross paths with delightful Annette on our Singer Featherweight 221 & 222 Facebook Group, showcasing one of her beautiful Featherweight Case Restorations.  We invited her to participate in a Restore Along series. She was kind enough to create a very informative journey of her restorative process.  This will be so enjoyable to follow along!Products Used in Today's Case Restoration Part 1: White Vinegar Tray for White Vinegar Putty Knife Razor Knife Microfiber Cloth...

Tools Needed or Recommended: Bobbin WinderBobbinsSlim Kitchen Knife (Paring Knife)Other Products Mentioned:Thread As you can see in the picture below, there is a little spring seated inside the post on the bobbin winder. (Bobbin winder was removed from the Featherweight for video tutorial and visual aid.) This spring looks very similar to a small wire. The early bobbin winders on the 1933 and 1934 Featherweights did not have that wire. Instead, there was just a slot. Common Bobbin Winder With...

Featherweight Case Refurbishing

Over on the Featherweight Schoolhouse today (under maintenance), you'll find our latest video tutorial.  From a technical, how-to video standpoint, it is excellent -- showing you the entire restoration process for how to refurbish a Singer Featherweight case.  But, I must say, from a Mama's perspective, it's rather adorable!  Our daughter, Ruthie became known throughout the summer on our Singer Featherweight Maintenance Workshop Tour as the little girl who taught case restoration at each of our classes.  She would personally choose a case at each class to use as an example to show this process.  It's taken some time, but...
